Accurate prayers, but hard to follow for first-timers (3 out of 5 stars) I followed the Havdalah section step by step as a beginner and ran into trouble. The Hebrew, transliteration, and English are clear and well laid out. The problem is that the instructions come too late. The wine blessing comes first, and its note says only to hold the cup, so I drank right after it. The instruction to wait and drink after the final blessing appears only on the next page. Nothing tells you to light the candle before you start. The fire blessing comes up with no earlier mention of lighting. A short numbered list at the start, such as “1. Light the candle. 2. Hold the cup but don’t drink. 3…” would fix this. The book seems written for readers who already know the ceremony.

Everything You Need to Welcome Shabbat Into Your Home, All in One Beautiful Book
Before there were Jews or Christians, before Abraham was called from Ur, before Sinai, God gave Shabbat to Adam and Eve, the mother and father of all humanity. It was a gift to the whole world, and it still is.
The Shabbat Table is your complete companion for Friday night and the whole of Shabbat, made for families who want to bring this ancient gift into their own homes. Whether it is candle lighting, Shalom Aleichem, blessing your children, Kiddush over the wine, the blessing over the challah, traditional songs, grace after meals, or Havdalah at the close of the day—this book guides you through it all.
Every prayer appears in Hebrew, in clear English translation, and in easy English transliteration. You can say the words exactly as they have been said for thousands of years, even if you have never read a word of Hebrew in your life.
You do not need prior experience running a Shabbat meal. Short explanations walk you through each step and tell you why it matters, so your first Shabbat dinner feels warm and joyful instead of intimidating.

One day each week, the relentless demands of the world simply cannot touch us. We are free. That is Shabbat, not a restriction, but a liberation." — From the book
Order one for every seat at your table. Nobody should have to share, and nobody should be left out of the singing. Grab a stack for your family, your Shabbat guests, and your small group.
